Big Brothers Big Sisters School to Work Student Receives Scholarship

Kettie joined the School to Work program last summer with aspirations of gaining experience in preparation for her dream of becoming a teacher. School to Work is Big Brothers Big Sisters of Palm Beach and Martin Counties newest program that offers a unique integration of mentoring, skill training, and pathways to career and college success. Local businesses have youth work onsite in an internship to provide them with hands on experience in the field.

During Kettie’s internship, she connected with local leaders and guest speakers to acquire new skills such as applying for college scholarships. We are pleased to announce, with the assistance of a recommendation letter she earned from the program, Kettie received a total of $40,000 in scholarships and has decided to attend Florida Atlantic University in fall of 2018.

Thank you to the many program supporters who have made Kettie’s dream a reality including Palm Beach County Youth Services Department, The Jim Moran Foundation, The Lost Tree Foundation and the William and Helen Thomas Charitable Trust. To learn more about the School to Work Program visit mentorbig.org or contact Alyssa Williams at 561-296-0893.
